If you’ve successfully passed a New Entrant Safety Audit, that doesn’t mean your company is in the clear yet. If the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) determines that something is wrong or you aren’t following safety protocol, you may be asked to participate in a DOT compliance review.
What Is a DOT Compliance Review?
A DOT compliance review is similar to a safety audit. It’s the FMCSA’s way of making sure that you are following all safety protocols outlined by the FMCSA. As part of the compliance review, a Federal or State Safety Investigator will complete an on-site examination of your operations. You may be contacted by the FMCSA to do a DOT compliance review if your company has had:
- Poor CSA BASIC scores
- A request to change a safety rating
- A major accident
- A complaint investigation
- Roadside inspections that resulted in “out-of-service” violations
- A failed new entrant safety audit

How to Be Compliant
The best way to prepare for a DOT compliance review is to prepare as if you’re planning on a new entrant safety audit. You’ll need to prove to the FMCSA that your company is following all safety regulations set in place. If you fail your review, your company may be put out-of-service.
